Hello! I’m Joanna, the owner of Fox & The Hound Pet Services.
After nearly 30 years with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, I recently retired and found myself looking for a new way to spend my time — something that would keep me active, bring value to the community, and give me purpose. Caring for animals has always been a source of happiness in my life, and starting this small pet care business felt like the perfect fit.
I’ve been a dog lover for as long as I can remember. I grew up surrounded by bird-hunting dogs who weren’t just working animals — they were beloved family members. After moving to Alaska, I got my first Hungarian vizsla, who became a loyal companion and helped raise our children. She lived a long, wonderful life and left a lasting imprint on our hearts. Later, we welcomed a stubborn but sweet basset hound into our family, who we cherished until she passed away last summer. Over the years, I’ve also owned and cared for cats, fish, and birds, which has given me a wide appreciation for the different personalities and needs of pets of all kinds.
Although the timing isn’t quite right for me to bring another dog into our lives permanently just yet, I can’t imagine life without the company of pets. Through Fox & The Hound Pet Services, I’m grateful for the chance to share my love and care with yours — whether it’s through a quick check-in, a daily walk, or a long Alaskan adventure on the trails.
I also live a very active lifestyle — cross-country skiing nearly every day in the winter and enjoying a variety of outdoor activities year-round. This keeps me fit, energetic, and ready to provide the exercise and companionship your pets need to stay happy and healthy.
Providing trustworthy, compassionate, and professional care is my top priority. I know what it means to love a pet as family, and I promise to treat yours as if they were my own.
